The
Sleepy Hollow golf team concluded its season on Tuesday, May 23rd
by earning a tie against Hastings High School at the St. Andrews Club.
Andrew Palazzi, the lone senior on the team, won the final match of his
high school career. Devin
Mahoney and Jimmy Bender, playing the 1 and 2 spots respectively, played
poorly and lost their matches. Jimmy
Bender finished his inaugural season with a blistering 8 – 1 record,
often matched up against players five year older than himself.
Carey Robinson, who has experienced the highs and lows this year,
tied his match and earned the team a crucial half point.
Marco Baran earned the team’s scoring title for the second year
in a row, in spite of shooting a 52.
He finished the season with a record of 6 –2 –2.
Kelly Bender continued her great play and shot the lowest score on
the team - a 49 on a tough, hilly course.
Kelly also finished the season with an 8 – 1 record.
The
team finished with an overall record of 4 wins, 4 losses and 3 ties.
This year’s team was bolstered by the addition of new young
players like Jimmy Bender, Ian Hummell and Rob Capposela.
There is a greater sense of competition among the players, which
helps to hone their intensity and their level of play. (Posted 5/25/2006) Varsity Golf
