Girls' Lacrosse

The Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse team kicked off their first varsity season with a scrimmage against Ossining.  Sleepy Hollow finished the scrimmage 6-3.  Angela Martello scored 2 goals, and In-hye Erstling had a goal for the Horsemen.  The team has only one returning defender in Jennifer Lopez.  She is doing an outstanding job pulling the defense together.  The rest of the defense consists of 3 freshmen.  They are all collectively playing well for Sleepy Hollow, considering it is their first year playing lacrosse.  Maggie Schnog does an incredible job connecting upfield to the offense and controlling the draw.  The team has a lot to look forward to this season.  There will be a scrimmage at Putnam Valley High School at 4:30pm on Wednesday, March 28th.  ([posted 3/28/07)


 

JV Girls’ Lacrosse
On Thursday, May 11th the Sleepy Hollow Girls' Lacrosse Team stretched its record to 7-4 for the season with a win over Harrison 9-6.  Maggie Schnog led for the day with 2 goals and 1 assist.  Maggie consistently maintained control on the draw to lead the Horsemen.  Angela Martello and Melissa Smutek each had 2 goals.  In-hye Erstling had a goal and an assist.  Finally, Emma Venturini and Diana Faustino had a goal each.  Maria Martello finished with a career high of 18 saves in goal.  She truly dominated in goal and created a strong defensive presence for the team.  (Posted 5/18/2006)


JV Girls’ Lacrosse
The JV Girls' Lacrosse Team came out strong against Bronxville on Wednesday, May 17th to win 15-7.  After losing the previous year by scores of 15-2 and 13-1, Sleepy Hollow certainly had something to prove.  And that they did!  The first half finished with a score of 6-3.  The Horsemen came out with a mission-driven attitude to succeed.  Angela Martello finished with a career high 7 goals and 1 assist.  Also leading the Horsemen was In-hye Erstling who had 2 goals and 1 assist.  Diana Faustino finished with 2 goals, Roza Moshi had a goal and an assist, and Lauren Chin, Leigh Mignogna, and Melissa Smutek all had a goal for Sleepy Hollow.  Maggie Schnog had an assist while also contributing to draw control of 18-4.  Emma Venturini and Diana Faustino played well for the Horsemen.  Maria Martello finished with 8 saves in goal.  Come watch the Horsemen finish the season on Friday, May 19th vs. Rye at 4:30pm at Sleepy Hollow.  (Posted 5/18/2006)


JV Girls’ Lacrosse
The Sleepy Hollow JV Girls' Lacrosse team faced off against Briarcliff High School on Wednesday, May 10th and finished ahead 13-12.  The Horsemen were leading at the half by a score of 8-6.  Strong defensive efforts were made by Jennifer Lopez, Cathy Garro, and Sarah Campbell.  Leading scorer for the day was Angela Martello with four goals.  Maggie Schnog finished with four points consisting of two goals and two assists.  Diana Faustino had two goals and one assist.  Emma Venturini finished scoring one goal and one assist.  The success of the team was truly based on the even distribution of goals and

defensive efforts on the field.  Melissa Smutek, In-hye Erstling, Roza Bauer-Moshi, Anna Oliva, and Lauren Chin all scored a goal for the Horsemen.  Maria Martello had 13 saves, making this the third game in which she had saves in the double digits.  Good job Horsemen!  The girls are now 6-4 and look to take on Harrison at home on Thursday, May 11th @ 4:30pm.  (Posted 5/11/2006)


JV Girls’ Lacrosse
On Friday, May 5th, the JV Girls' Lacrosse Team fell to Pleasantville by a score of 11-13.  The Horsemen were down at the half 5-8.  Emma Venturini came back to score 2 of her 3 goals in the second half.  Emma finished with a game and career high of 3 goals.  Melissa Smutek had 2 goals and 1 assist.  Anna Oliva also had two goals after returning last week from a lower back injury.  Angela Martello and Maggie Schnog both had a goal and an assist.  Natalie Apuzzo and Leigh Mignogna also had a goal for the Horsemen.  Maggie Schnog played her best game of the season with poise at the midfield and maintaining control of the draw throughout the game.  Maria Martello finished with 6 saves, and Bianca Bucci had 3.  The Horsemen face Byram Hills at Sleepy Hollow at 4:30pm, on Monday, May 8th.  (Posted 5/10/2006)


JV Girls’ Lacrosse
The JV Girls’ Lacrosse Team finished on top (7-6) in an amazing game against

Edgemont on Thursday, April 27th.  Diana Faustino and Leigh Mignogna led the Horsemen with two goals each.  Natalie Apuzzo played strong offensively with one goal and an assist.  Melissa Smutek and In-hye Erstling each had a goal, while Maggie

Schnog finished with one assist offensively.  Maria Martello played another strong game in goal with 13 saves.  She has had two consecutive games with double digit saves.  The Horsemen held strong to maintain their lead throughout the second half.  As Edgemont closed the gap, Sleepy Hollow regained composure and maintained control until the final whistle.  Jennifer Lopez played an exceptional game for the defense, working hard to control the midfield play.  Our record is currently 5-3.  The Horsemen host Rye on

JV Girls’ Lacrosse
The Headless Horsemen battled North Salem on Wednesday, April 26th finishing with a score of 6-12.  Jennifer Lopez and Alee Praino made great efforts defensively.  Liz David, Leigh Mignogna, Paola Urgiles, and Jessica Nunez also played strong for the defense to hold North Salem to 6 less goals than the previous game.  Maria Martello had her best game of the season finishing with 18 saves in goal, a school record.  Angela Martello led the Horsemen with 2 goals.  Diana Faustino, Maggie Schnog, In-hye Erstling, and Roza Moshi all had a goal for Sleepy Hollow.  Sarah Campbell had her first assist of the season.  The JV Girls’ Lacrosse Team is now 4-3 for the season.  Our next match up is Thursday, April 27th against Edgemont High School. (Posted 4/28/2006)


JV Girls’ Lacrosse
On Thursday, April 20th The Girls’ JV Lacrosse Team won their 4th game of the season against Pelham with a score of 11-4.  The team has surpassed the team record of 2 wins from the previous season in Girls Lacrosse.  Junior Captain Angela Martello continues to lead the offense with 3 goals and one assist.  Two goals were scored by Maggie Schnog and Melissa Smutek.  Diana Faustino had a goal and an assist.  In-hye Erstling and Carol Ann Bender scored a goal each for the Horsemen.  Finally, Roza Moshi had a goal and two assists, while Leigh Mignogna finished with an assist.  Maria Martello held strong in goal with four saves.  As the Horsemen continue to grow, we would love for you to come see us in action.  We will be at home on Monday, April 24th at 4:30pm.  (Posted 4/26/2006)


JV Girls’ Lacrosse
The JV Girls' Lacrosse Team is back and ready to go!  They hit the road to Albertus Magnus and had an incredibly successful trip.  The team was down 4-5 at the half.  But with maintaining control of the draw consistently, the Horsemen pulled away in the second half, finishing with a score of 9-5.  Angela Martello led with three goals and one assist.  Melissa Smutek scored two goals and a game high of two assists.  Diana Faustino also scored two goals for Sleepy Hollow.  Leigh Mignogna and Maggie Schnog scored one goal a piece.  Goalie Maria Martello had a save for the Horsemen.  Liz David and Jennifer Lopez played a strong game defensively.  The Team will be hosting Pelham on Thursday, April 20th.

JV Girls’ Lacrosse
The Sleepy Hollow JV Girls' Lacrosse pulled ahead in the second half to finish 13-4 against Nanuet.  It was a well-rounded game for the Horsemen.  Everyone contributed on the field.  Angela Martello led with three goals and two assists.  Melissa Smutek, and In-hye Erstling each had two goals.  Roza Bauer-Moshi, Paola Urgiles, Leigh Mignogna, and Diana Faustino each had a goal for the Horsemen.  Key contributors also included Cathy Garro, Liz David, Jennifer Lopez, and Maggie Schnog.  Maria Martello had four saves in goal.  Overall, the team showed dedication and commitment to the team, themselves, and helping each other pull together.  The girls will face Albertus Magnus on the road on Wednesday, April 19th.  (Posted 4/20/2006)


JV Girls’ Lacrosse
On Thursday, April 6th, the Sleepy Hollow Girls' Lacrosse Team fell to North Salem 18-6.  The Horsemen had a strong half trailing 9-5.  Angela Martello led with 2 goals for the Horsemen.  In-hye Erstling and Diana Faustino both had a goal and an assist for Sleepy Hollow.  Freshman Bianca Bucci had a career high of 7 saves in goal. Maria Martello also had 5 saves as goalie.   The JV Girls' Lacrosse Team will be playing at Nanuet on Friday, April 7th.


JV Girls’ Lacrosse
The Sleepy Hollow Girls' Lacrosse Team played a strong game against Pleasantville High School to come away with their first win of the season with a score of 7-3.  Angela Martello led the scoring with 5 goals for the Horsemen.  Maggie Schnog had two goals and an assist. The Horsemen defense demonstrated teamwork, communication, and hustle.  Sarah Campbell, Leigh Mignogna, Liz David, and Paola Urgiles all played well for the defense.  In goal, Maria Martello walked away with 11 saves, a game high for the Horsemen.  The team will be playing at home against North Salem on Thursday, April 6th.  (Posted 4/6/2006)


Modified Girls’ Lacrosse
This spring season we started a new modified girls’ lacrosse program.  We are looking to extend our program and get the younger girls involved and interested.  Although we only have 15 girls on our roster this season, we are all still very anxious and excited for our first season together and hope to build a solid foundation for the Sleepy Hollow Girls’ Lacrosse Program.


The Sleepy Hollow Girls' Lacrosse Team opened the season yesterday with a battle against Pearl River.  The team fell to Pearl River 7-5.  With over 20 players beginning their first season of lacrosse this year, the team pulled together and played a strong 50 minutes.

Sleepy Hollow defense played an amazing game with Maria Martello in goal.  She had over 8 saves in goal.  The offense battled hard with Angela Martello leading the group with 3 goals.  Roza Bauer-Moshi and Diana Faustino both scored a goal.  Maggie Schnog and In-hye Erstling both had an assist.

Welcome to Sleepy Hollow Girls Lacrosse!  This is the second season of girl’s lacrosse at sleepy hollow high school.  The program is continuously working on growth, increasing knowledge of sport, and enhancing athleticism.  In 2005, Sleepy Hollow started their 1st season of girl’s lacrosse at the Junior Varsity level.  By 2006, a modified team had been added to the program.  Finally, by 2007, Sleepy Hollow plans to have a Modified, Junior Varsity, and Varsity squad.

The 2006 Junior Varsity team consists of 31 female athletes ranging from 8th-12th grade.  The team has 11 returning players from 2005.  Our team is very excited and dedicated to enjoying a great season, having fun, learning the game, and building relationships.
